Never thought that Los Angeles had a good Filipino bakery. But, it's Los Angeles, so it better be good! We went on sunset Blvd. and expected great places to go eat or shop. This place delivered although the surrounding smelled of piss.

The place is located on sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles where parking is a pain in the booty. Otherwise, the excitement of people watching and shopping is a plus. The food places are abundant but figured we try this out as it was a recommendation from a friend.

Inside, it is very small. Very few people were inside and there were plenty of Filipino desserts inside such as: turon, ube empanadas, buko pandan, halo halo, pastilles and plenty other Filipino cakes and pastries.

What I got I'll show you through the pictures. The empanadas were very good and the bao we got was amazing as it was fresh. They had them in pork and chicke. And we got one of each. The total was about 43$ after taxes. The photos should speak for themselves.

The customer service was very good, the guy had a personality though I didn't catch his name. He rode a Japanese motorcycle to work everyday. The cookies we got in ube and chocolate were hard and inedible to me. The hopia which is also filled with ube was delicious. They make them by the dozen and not in its dice form.

We also got a slice of cake for free somehow even though it was about 2$. The guy just gave it for free. Maybe it was laying out there for days and he wanted to give it away, idk. It tasted good as it was cassava.

Free WiFi, no bathrooms and no parking nearby. The place is located in a desolate area off sunset so it is difficult to find at first, but remember that waze and google maps are your friend.

Overall, the experience was great, expect traffic and difficult to find parking if at all. There are a few places nearby that looked good but didn't have a chance to try.

Ok I drove here on purpose because I heard so many good things about it... the food is true to it's Filipino roots but I'm not really sure if it's worth the effort to go back.

It's not really easy to find, even if you use an app because it's small place and the fri t of it is not really facing the street.  Blink and you could miss it.  They do have a small parking lot in front of the store, but if it's your first time to go, it hard to figure out how to get In to it from Sunset Blvd.

It's a small packed relatively messy place - and though there can be some appeal to its ethnic authenticity, I think it needs some tidying up.

I tried their "Jumbo Siopao" both in chicken and pork, it also has salted egg and Chinese sausage mixed into it - which I loved.   Their pork and chicken is interchangeable- since the meat is shredded, you can hardly tell the difference.

I also bought all the different flavors of "Hopia" that they had - this is a Chinese sweet individual crusted cake that can be stuffed with taro/ubé, mung beans, etc.  The crust was nice and flaky but not any better then others I'vetried.

I would have liked to have tried other things but the man who was helping us (I believe he was the owner) was not very accommodating and he hardly wanted to answer my questions.  As much as i tried to be friendly he made me feel like I was bothering him, so I bought only what I knew - and left.

I don't think I'd go out of my way to go back.

United Bakery is a local Filipino bakery in Silverlake. This tiny bake shop is easy to miss and located in the wedge where Sunset curves into Griffith Park Blvd.

My go to here is the turon.. Turon is basically a fried plantain wrapped in a spring roll wrapper with includes a strip of ripe jackfruit. After it's fried, it's caramelized in sugar. United Bakery is one of the better bake shops that makes a great turon. For $0.60/piece, it's a steal.

Get them made to order and served warm.

    Great small Filipino bakery.

I discovered this place because I workout nearby. They have all sorts of Filipino pastries including empanadas but the main event are the Turon aka sweet banana egg rolls. It's caramelized and crunchy on the outside and inside there's a plantain and a piece of jack fruit. This is a great hit for a gift. A few times I have come, they were nice and gave me some extra turon on the house.

You can call ahead for an order. They also have a very tiny parking lot (maybe like 2-3 spaces). You can also find free street parking and metered spots.

I've only tried the Turon (banana and jackfruit wrapped in spring roll wrapper then deep fried and then drizzled in a caramel glaze) here and upon receiving my box, I immediately devoured 3!
    So good. So simple.
The portion of banana, sweet jackfruit to the ratio of the wrapper (sometimes they roll them too thick) were on point.
I'm contemplating walking back and getting myself another dozen to 'share'
